RR 24: Apologies Are Not Nearly Enough

Longtime listeners know we catch a lot of heat for some of the things we say on the show and post on the blog.

In an effort to be proactive, and in the interest of saving our time and yours, we offer this generic blanket statement to all Latin@s who feel an apology is more than acceptable when we’re insulted by Cinco de Mayo minstrel shows on cable network news shows or the subject of blatantly bigoted DJ banter on big city radio stations.

Apologies To All The Latinos and Latinas We Have Offended…Or Are Just About To

On behalf of the increasingly popular Internet radio show Robles & Rosado, I would like to personally apologize for any foul language, painfully honest observations that cause offense, or controversial statements that elicit outraged responses from the thin-skinned and/or the guilty parties involved.

We accept full responsibility and I assure you we are not taking any steps at all to prevent it from happening again. In fact, we guarantee you that you will most likely find fault with many more things we say on this and any of our future episodes

Thank you, mi gente, for always accepting any and all half-assed, insincere apologies that are thrown your way.

As has been noted by many others, apologies are so commonplace today that they have no real effectiveness. The time for the “ay benditos” are over.

Speaking of apologies, the folks at ABC News should be working on some mea culpas for their handling of Rosie Perez’s status on the daytime talk show The View.  Accusations of racism and sexism are being leveled at the network but we’re not completely convinced that’s what’s at play here.

If current poll numbers hold true, presidential aspirant Senator Ted Cruz needn’t worry about filling out any change of address forms with the Post Office. His numbers are abysmal across the board but he still seems to be shying away from actively courting the Latin@ vote.

That’s okay, Mike and I will fill the Hispandering void!  We are considering a run for President and Vice-President.

Just as soon as we decide who goes for the top job…

RR 16: ‘The View’ Joins Team Rosie

Rosie Perez is from old-school Brooklyn.  Not this new hipsterville nonsense they got going on there these days but the real-deal Brooklyn.

She’s from the Brooklyn where you speak your mind and were always ready to defend your point of view.

Ms. Perez will bring that old school Brooklyn sensibility to ABC Television’s long running talk show ‘The View’. She will be the first Latina on the panel of hosts in the 17 year history of the show.

Now from a Latina who demands respect to another who obviously doesn’t burden herself with that concern: Sofia Vergara. Her “I Can’t Believe She Is Actually Doing This” skit at the Emmy’s is still creating waves. Naturally she defended her actions.

“It means somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself and enjoy her work and make money.”

Yo Sofia, sometimes leaving money on the table isn’t a bad thing. Just saying…

We also discuss the latest iCloud celebrity phone hacking scandal and get up to our usual wisecracking and tomfoolery. In other words, it’s another classic episode of Robles & Rosado.

We just having fun!

RR 05: 2 Million Deportations? Blame Thalia…

The root verb of “Chingon” is a vulgarity but Mexicans understand most variations of the word to mean “badass”.  Pizza Patrón, a Texas-based restaurant chain that sells pizzas marketed toward Mexicans, is crying foul over what they feel is censorship as radio networks in the Lone Star state refuse to air ads for their new pizza dubbed “La Chingona”.  Pedro feels the radio networks are well within their rights to ban the Pizza Patrón spots but Mike believes it’s much ado about nothing.

shutterstock_107260595Latinos have shown President Barack Obama enormous support during both of his presidential campaigns so it comes as a shock to many that the United States’ first black President has deported over 2 million undocumented brown immigrants.  Immigration is on Mike’s mind this week and he offers up his unique perspective on this very divisive issue, laying blame on a certain Mexican superstar and a very jealous First Lady.

This week’s Bochinche is centered around actor, director, activist, and boxing expert Rosie Perez.  She shares the details of her long running feud with Jennifer Lopez in her new memoir “Handbook for an Unpredictable Life”.  Also, reports claim Shakira’s man has banned the Colombian singer from featuring men in her music videos but apparently has no problem with her frolicking with a naked Rihanna In front of the cameras. Hmmmmm.
